I ordered this in 2017. I was super happy with this product until I found my coop filled with smoke and my precious babies dead on the floor. I cannot tell you the heartbreak and amount of loss I feel. The structure did not burn down, but the smell of burnt plastic is trapped in my coop which leaves it unusable. All the time and money I invested into my walk in coop, and now my chickens are homeless. My run smells, the chickens that survived smell. It is truly awful! I used this product the way it was meant to be used. I chose it because it was supposed to be safe!!!! I am truly heartbroken and recommend to anyone to not add electrical heat, just extra insulation.

I put this in the covered part of an A-frame chicken coop for our 7-week-old chicks, during a recent cold snap. I was really worried about it being too hot and have only used the low setting. The high setting was hot to the touch, when we tested with our hands. I also bought a thermocube, which turns on at 35f and off at 45f. That gave me a little peace of mind that it would turn off before it got too warm in the coop. Figured if I didn't like it for the chicks, my dogs could use it in their stall in the barn. But the chicks are keeping the hot plate [their " flat screen tv"] and I may buy another for the dogs. So, yes, I'd recommend it but wish there were more temperature settings available.

Works great in the brooder. The two settings allow you to have higher heat when the birds first hatch. Then lower as the birds get older and closer to moving outside. In the aviary it can be hung and provides a space for the birds looking for a little more warmth. Easy to clean.
The only thing I’d change is the feet. If they could be put at an angle it would allow you to place it closer to the walls in the brooder. A few chicks got stuck behind it where there was less heat.

I have one of these units and it has served my birds very well for 4 years. I am about to buy a second one [my chickens won't let my lone guinea in the coop, so he is going to get his own bachelor pad]. I am using these in a small space [converted playhouses, each is approximately a 4ft cube] where they can get up next to it when needed. What is important to keep in mind is that this is not a space heater. It will not heat the area and keep water from freezing, for example. It is a radiant heater, which means it will keep your birds warm when they are near it. You need to place the heater where they can sit ot perch next to it. Placing it on a wall several feet from your animals will accomplish nothing. The reviews that complain it is not worthwhile in cold temps are expecting a space heater, which is a misplaced expectation. I am in Minnesota. It has kept 6 guineas [not fans of winter] comfortable in sub-zero temps. 35 below zero and my birds were fine. Other considerations: I started out using heat lamps. Besides using a lot more energy, my birds actually melted their feathers getting too close to the bulbs and the bulbs were a high fire risk. If you want to keep your water from freezing this is not the item to do that. Get a heated dog bowl, but don't dismiss a great product for not doing something beyond its stated purpose.

We live in NC, so cold weather hasn't really hit. So, I will try to remember to edit this review if need be. I've noticed that the chickens do sleep next to it. It does get very warm on the high setting.
The chickens seem to be happy, so this chicken tender is thrilled!

It’s pretty much plug and play. You have a toggle switch. What we did is zip tie it into our brooder boxes to hold the heat instead of the night like 24/7.

This has/is performing better than I hoped. We call this our chicken’s flat screen TV, since it is about the size of a 14” flat screen TV.

First off, the switch has three total settings.
[ 1 - off - 2]
The manf. says 1 = 130° and 2 = 180°. I can tell you from experience that if these numbers are true, it is the coils or whatever heats up on the inside, not the surface of the unit. I can hold my hand 1-2” away from the surface when it’s on the hotter setting and be nice and warm. Because it’s radiant heat, you save energy over heating the air.

We started this heater in our brooder box with our chicks and since migrated it with them to their coop. At first, when they were little, they were scared of such a large, black, wall in their box, but upon realizing they were cozy near it, they quickly got over that. As they have grown they are now as tall as it is and love it just as much.

The legs attach with friction alone. I drilled holes in the feet and attached it to a board via screws so it doesn’t fall over. On that point though, I will say that one night, it did fall over in the brooder box. I woke to find that not only were all the chicks sitting on it [on the back] because it warm, it also hadn’t caused a single burn or scorch mark to the pine shavings it laid on all night. No, there is not one of those alarms or auto-off features if it falls over. But based on that experience [barring any faulty electrical issue] I can say with confidence that the fire risk with this unit is quite minimal.

Anyways, with it currently on the low setting and in the corner of the coop, it keeps our insulated coop around a constant 50° for the winter [40° during the days, 20° or less at night]. We’ll turn it off as the nights warm up come spring time. But I have no doubt that this will be a staple for our chickens for the years to come. And if it breaks or fails at any point, $45ish is an easy price to pay to fend off frostbite when the temps dip below freezing.

This heater has out performed my expectation and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a chicken [or even other small animal] heater.

Works great for the chick's and eliminates fire concerns

I liked this at first, seemed to put out just enough heat that the birds would sit under it but it only lasted one winter. Turned it on two days ago and nothing, no light, no heat. A bit too expensive for one season of use.

The EHEIM Thermocontrol+ e appears to be a new Wifi Heater with new innovative features but which hasn’t yet been announced by the German company. Following the article about their new Climacontrol+ wifi controlled chillers we spied an interesting graphic among their landing page for their big push into digital.

Among their new line of digitally enhanced products like the Professionel 5e canister filter, AutoFeeder+, and LEDControl+ is just a small inset with some tantalizing details clearly showing something we’ve never seen before. The image shows an Ebo-Jager Eheim heater with the words ‘aquarium-e-heater’ and a wifi icon next to the EHEIM logo and bolstering our suspicion the head of the heater is completely devoid of any kind of dial for adjusting temperature.

In place of the usual control dial there is only a single big red button and we can faintly make out what appears to be a pair of status LEDs to communicate the current state of the heater like we would expect when trying to establish a wireless local area network or WLAN. There doesn’t appear to be any mention of the EHEIM Thermocontrol+ e specifically, but a cursory search revealed a nearly identical model under the Top Fin brand which explicitly states ‘Engineered by EHEIM’ on the box and the heater itself.

For aquarists outside of North America Top Fin is a brand owned by United Pet Group and sold exclusively at Petsmart consisting mostly of private labeled products by other well known aquarium brands. While we don’t have any specific from Eheim themselves we can see the Top Fin labeled version priced at $69 for the 150 watt version, $79 for the 200 watt version and $89 for the 300 watt version which seems like a reasonable premium over their classic counterparts.

It appears that the Top Fin wifi heater has been available for several months and unfortunately for Eheim and Top Fin the reviews are universally scathing, mostly to the barely-there wireless feature which we were already skeptical of working while submerged. ‘Do not buy’, ‘Expensive Garbage’, ‘Nightmare Install’ and another ‘DO NOT BUY’ this time in all caps are just some of the headlines of the reviews which average to a rating of 1.6 out of 5 – ouch!

We are are purely speculating but suspect that EHEIM might have lowered the performance for the Top Fin brand and/or are using the private labeled units to beta test and iron out the bugs. If the Top Fin ProSeries is identical to the German wifi heater it sounds like the EHEIM Thermocontrol+ e heater could have a steep hill to climb to becoming an acceptable aquarium heater so most of us will probably be sticking to the analog versions for the time being.

I have gone through several of these. I keep buying them because my husband swears by the aqueon pros, but I can't get more than a few months out of one.The heater pictures was purchased in 02/2019, the picture was taken 08/2019.

The Aqueon Adjustable Pro Aquarium Heater is a good product. I like how it is able to detect the tank temperature. It turns on when the tank temperature drops or turn off when the temperature is normal. There’s is an adjustable dial temperature to increase or decrease. Good investment for your little fish friends.

 Design very sleek and good material. Setup at 76F for the first 24 hrs as instructed. Current water temp is 82F and the heater will be set at 82F. Will see how it goes. Will post update later on.

Perfect! Always keeps the same temperature.

I've been using this heater in my outdoor 60 gallon pond since fall and it has kept the water open all winter in Vermont in temperatures sometimes under 0 and usually in the 10-20's. I placed a single pane [not insulated] glass storm window over the pond with one glass pane removed over the fountain and the pond has not iced up a single time all winter! I have fancy guppies out there and while I do not know if they survived since I can't see in the pond very well with it covered like this, the water is never ice cold, even on extremely cold nights. Most days the water feels warm. I would 100% recommend this heater for outdoor ponds in the winter: it has worked absolutely perfectly for that purpose for me! Works much better than a similar wattage pond deicer and much more economically than a higher wattage pond deicer. When attached to the filter box in the bottom of the pond, it heats the water before it goes into the pump, protecting the pump and fountain from freezing. The suction cups do not hold very well to the box filter since it is curved and plastic, but it works fine sandwiched between two rocks. In the fall I had it suctioned to the pond wall and it worked fine there, just moved it closer to the pump for winter to help it heat the water in the fountain better to prevent the fountain from freezing. I'm not sure it would work if the pond were not covered, but with minimal effort and an old storm window, it works great!

I will say that when it comes to in the tank heaters, this is one product where you get what you pay for. So it is well worth spending the extra money on one. If you cheap out, you run the risk of killing your fish. Trust me, I speak from experience. Lost a whole tank of expensive fish that I personally bred due to a different brand that stuck on and cooked my tank

It is very well made. It just feels solid and well built.
It DID take me a couple of days of adjusting to get it to the temp I needed. Don’t rely on the dial on the heater. It’s not going to help. They aren’t accurate.
But, once I got it dialed in, I have had zero issues and haven’t had to adjust it since.
I will be needing another heater soon and will be buying a second one of these so that is my review in a nutshell.
