Nokia 2.1 review south africa năm 2024

Nokia 2.1 is a Nokia-branded entry-level smartphone released by HMD Global in August 2018, running the Android operating system.

Design[edit]

The phone has an aluminium frame with a plastic back. It runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 System-on-chip with 1 GB of RAM. It has Dual Sim support.

Reception[edit]

The Nokia 2.1 received mixed reviews. Andrew Williams of TrustedReviews praised the phone’s "low price, large screen and stereo speakers" while criticising "poor storage and performance".

I have seen how the Nokia smartphone brand has been revived under HMD and I am thoroughly impressed. Since 2017, they have worked on providing exceptionally well built smartphones coupled with a pure Android experience. This coupled with the amazing support that they provide for their devices especially on the software front, makes Nokia smartphones worthwhile in ways I cannot begin to describe.

In my hands for the past week, has been the Nokia 2.1. I have admittedly used it intermittently as it doesn’t serve a power user well. However, I have a few thoughts about the Nokia 2.1 that may or may not surprise you. I will highlight 4 key areas; display, build, battery and finally software. So let’s dig in.

First on the list is display. The 2.1’s display is a HD 720p display using LCD tech spanning a diagonal of 5.5 inches. In one word; massive! I love how large the display is especially coming from a smaller display as well as appreciating how color accurate it seems. I watched a quite a bit of YouTube videos as well as an episode or two of the new Luke Cage on Netflix and it was awesome! Flanking the display are two loud front facing speakers that make for a rather awesome viewing experience, made me forget about my earphone woes for some time. Nokia, I applaud you for this.

Next up is the build. The Nokia 2.1 is made of plastic or if you wanna get fancy, polycarbonate. Whichever way you look at it, it’s a practical build while at the same time looking good enough to pass as a mid range phone. The review unit I got had some interesting copper accents on the matte blue phone. The buttons were slightly mushy but I can’t complain really. They were easy to find and hit. One thing about a plastic build that we take for granted is that you don’t really need a case on your phone. That’s quite something for me and I’m sure for many guys who only need the phone and not a whole trail of accessories along with it. On this front, Nokia cut corners but I don’t think that’s a problem for me. A beautiful practical build.

Battery. Two day battery life is the Nokia 2.1’s claim to fame. It’s a 4000mAh battery that’s non-removable from the phone’s body which makes it clear that this phone was designed from the ground up to survive and make sure you didn’t need to think about the charger every five hours [cough: iPhones]. I can now attest to this. Its pretty awesome. On one of the days of use starting the day at 6.30am, I jumped on emails, calls, Whatsapp, texts, streaming some videos and hotspotting myself on the go, throughout the day and at 9pm, I had 41% battery left. I was impressed and happy. I want this from more smartphones. This is the gold standard.

So I finally get to software. The juicy part. Where all the magic happens. The Nokia 2.1 is running Android 8.1 but not the normal one you’ll find running on the Pixel devices or the Infinix Note 5, its more barebones. Google calls it the Go Edition of its OS. Only core OS services and apps make it to the phone. This makes sure that the OS runs okay even on 1GB of RAM and a lower end processor like the Snapdragon 425. A whole lot of stuff has been stripped down including the apps. Instead of running fully featured Android apps, we get Go apps which are basically core app functionality without fancy animations and features that we never really use. For example, the Maps Go is basically a web app and out of the box lacks navigation which I use quite a bit. You get maps and that’s about it.

The day to day experience is alright. You get fast enough performance to get things done. The OS does some serious memory management to keep the phone chugging along but I don’t mind it. A second or three to get Whatsapp loaded is enough to get some people mad at you then a constant refresh on Instagram makes sure you won’t be an influencer any time soon and YouTube Go isn’t for me. That I can admit.

All in all, the experience is manageable and I commend Nokia for going with the Android Go platform for the Nokia 2.1 the rewards are rather obvious.

There is a lot more to say about the Nokia 2.1. The headphone jack is great, the cameras are meh and charging takes quite a bit of time but nonetheless, its a solid package for the segment. So now, there’s price. The Nokia 2.1 retais for anywhere from 11k to 12k but you can get better deals out there. In a vacuum the 2.1 is awesome but in a market flooded by Chinese brands like Tecno, Infinix and Oppo, the price is a hard pill to swallow but if you decide to swallow that pill, you will not be disappointed.

Is the Nokia 2.4 a good phone?

I love this phone so much because it is super cheap, yet has many features such as Face ID, Fingerprint ID, and super fast speeds! The 4GB RAM is also a lot for a phone this cheap. It has a good video speed of 60 FPS but in photo mode it is 30 FPS which is a downside.nullCustomer reviews: Nokia 2.4 | Android 10 | Unlocked Smartphonewww.amazon.com › product-reviewsnull
