I see negative reviews because nipple did not work in Fleck Bypass or other Stainless Steel fittings. Stainless steel NPT male fittings should never be used with stainless steel female fittings! NPT threading requires squishing threads together with a material deforming on microscopic level under pressure to fill microscopic gaps. SS on SS spalls[rips] under pressure rather than deform. SS fittings work well if other side deforms. e.g. SS couplings commonly used on PVC threaded pipe in wells as much stronger coupling than PVC coupling. Inserting into a SS female fitting, use a PVC male coupling. a SS nipple should be used to connect two plastic fittings. SS male can go into SS washer fitting because washer achieves seal and not thread deformation[e.g. corrugated hot water heater connector not a true NPT connection] Note that brass deforms under pressure so brass on brass or brass on copper works fine in plumbing. Did not work in my application! Did not notice that one of female fittings was SS! Tried any way. Did not go in far enough on SS side. Went in fully in plastic side. Had tight tolerance for total length. Ordered sched 80 PVC close nipple which should thread in further and lacks hex section in middle. This should hopefully gain me close to 1" shorter assembly which should fit tight space needed. While I now have a useless coupling, it does appear to be of decent quality.

Could not get fitting to be leak tight. Don't know if it was this part or the corresponding piece that it was threaded into, but would not buy again. I tried another piece and another mate with the same results. Made in China. Questionable quality control.

Bought this for a Fleck 5600 sxt 1" stainless steel bypass valve. The price was very reasonable and was hoping to avoid buying a brass nipple since the valve and the fitting on the other side are both stainless steel.

NPT specs say that the fittings should be able to go 4-5 turns when hand tightened, I was barely able to get one. I was concerned about it being cross threaded, but after a dozen tries with both [I bought two], on both sides and both openings in the valve decided I was doing it right. I lined it up to another 1" NPT fitting with what should be the same threads and it was definitely off by a bit. When set on top of each the threads did not mesh more than a couple of times.

Wound up going to HD and buying a brass nipple, it behaved exactly as I would have expected. Four turns to hand tighten and then an additional two-three turns with a wrench.

The package had 2, and both were defective. They have a thin wall, and both had a hole in the thread that went thru to the inside. They apparently attempted to fix one by badly soldering a blob on the inside of the pipe.

Low Chinese price, thus low Chinese quality!

Dimensionaly accurate. Unlike some of the other reviewers, the one I received was machined accurately.

The material is Questionable. It says "304" in the description and on the wrench flat. The fitting is strongly magnetic. Properly heat treated 304 stainless steel is non-magnetic [like spoons and forks in your silverware drawer]. The pump and check vale that I connected with this nipple are non-magnetic 304. I suspect that it is made from a cheaper grade of stainless steel [e.g. ferritic 409 stainless steel]. That would explain the magnetic properties. That would also explain the rust spots other reviewers observed.
