When Bvlgari, the celebrated house is mentioned, our minds conjure the image of luxurious, artistic pieces of jewelry simply because Bvlgari has an exceptional taste in their jewelry craftsmanship and an unmistakable signature style. Their foray into the world of perfumery was no less of a success. So, today’s main focal point is on Bvlgari Goldea The Roman Night Absolute Review.

Bvlgari is an ancient Italian prestigious house founded by Sotirios Voulgaris in 1884. They were utterly known for their luxurious jewelry, watches, leather goods, and fragrances. Their first perfume release was Eau Parfumée au Thé Vert in 1992.

The Goldea Collection:

Bvlgari released 6 renditions of Goldea and 2 special editions for Rose Goldea. As for my experience, it was only limited to 3 fragrances; The Roman Night, which was a lovely jasmine and tuberose perfume, but nothing that I gravitate back to. Then I stumbled upon Rose Goldea and it was an instant hit, a beautiful, fresh, and delicate rose fragrance. And finally, today’s guest of honor, Goldea The Roman Night Absolute.

Goldea The Roman Night Absolute Review:

Goldea The Roman Night Absolute is a Chypre Floral Eau de Parfum Sensuelle for women. It was presented to the world in 2018. The nose behind this perfume is Master Perfumer Alberto Morillas.

The Package & Bottle:

As far as the bottle aesthetics go, The Roman Night Absolute comes shrouded in tar black lacquer from cap to toe, with inscriptions of the name in gold. The bottle is oval and looks quite artistic and sophisticated. It perfectly reflects the very vibe of Italian elegance, grace, and class.

The Notes:

Top: Black plum, Orange Blossom

Heart: Jasmine Sambac Absolute, Bourbon Vanilla

Base: Black Musk, Crystallized Moss, Patchouli

Longevity:

The Roman Night Absolute became a skin scent in as little as 30 minutes! I have had mists that lasted way longer than that! This brings me to how it performs on fabrics, as it does so much better than on skin; it reached the 12-hour mark and was highly detectable throughout the wear. However, I still needed to tuck my nose close to where it was sprayed to get anything.

Contrast:

Although the blend opens up with a fruity and floral blast, it quickly turns into a piercing, sharp and patchouli-laden fragrance, that was a huge mess, to say the least. All the ingredients did not work that well together.

Sillage:

The Roman Night Absolute sillage was rather disappointing. Once I sprayed it on my skin and clothes, 30 minutes into wear and I couldn’t smell it around me anymore unless I tucked my nose pretty close to where it was sprayed.

Smell:

Now, as far as my experience with The Roman Night Absolute goes, it starts off with intense and sharp orange blossoms that are adamant and piercing, which, to me, was not the best way to start given the fact that I don’t favor orange blossoms as an initial accord to start the blend with. Even the addition of plums was not enough to curb this torrent of orange blossoms. Plums were very far in the background, and you’d have to really focus to get any whiffs of it.

After a while, around 15 minutes into wear, jasmines peaked their heads, shyly but steadily, and some sweetness started to unfold along with it. I did not get true nuances of vanilla; it would’ve added much needed creaminess and softness to this sharp formula. As time passed, some sort of a shampoo-ey vibe started to unfurl, and I have to say in all honesty that it felt a bit misplaced.

As the dry down phase approached, things started to get a little chaotic and abrupt; it morphed into a sharp, earthy, and dusty concoction of patchouli, musk and moss, which, if you did not know, adds some sort of a dusty vibe to blend as a whole, and I was never a fan of this phase because with the addition of patchouli too, things got a little out of control as those ingredients do not blend that well together. The Roman Night Absolute became exceedingly pungent, utterly synthetic and even slightly headache inducing!

Sizes:

It comes in 3 sizes; 30, 50 and 75 ml.

Price Tag:

50 ml for $43 and 75 ml for $66.00.

Conclusion:

One thing I did make note of is that this perfume rushes into the dry down phase rather quickly. I believe it needed to slow its pace down a bit because it gave me the feeling that it was not that well-blended as every note did not seem in harmony with the others.

I’d imagine that The Roman Night Absolute would fit a lady who is very much into intense and ponderous fragrances; a strong, confident lady between 30 and 50 years old who holds a powerful post in society and possesses a firm and strict posture, a CEO maybe.

As for my final verdict, The Roman Night Absolute was an utter disappointment for me. I felt that it did not live up to the standards I had for it. It was a hard pass for me as I found nothing groundbreaking about it and it is not a fragrance I would gravitate to. On the other hand, Rose Goldea, though highly versatile with almost no complexity or character, I found it to be much more intriguing.

What does Goldea the Roman Night smell like?

*Goldea the Roman Night* is sharp, bright, fresh, warm, sensual, love. It's sweet, airy and elegant—powerful & imposing—timeless. This has such a warm, musky, woodsy scent—it does remind me a little of marshmallow root. This perfume is very feminine, sultry and seductive, but genderless.
