Ở phân khúc xe sang đã qua sử dụng, người tiêu dùng trong nước thường lựa chọn 2 dòng xe Đức là BMW và Mercedes-Benz. Bởi lẽ, 2 thương hiệu xe sang nước Đức đã quá nổi tiếng nhờ thường hiệu tốt, thiết kế đẹp, sang trọng và động cơ mạnh mẽ bền bỉ.
Phân khúc xe sang đã qua sử dụng trong tầm giá 400 triệu đồng, rất khó có mẫu xe nào có thể cạnh tranh được với dòng Mercedes-Benz C200 đời 2007 - 2008.
Mặc dù vậy, vẫn có một số mẫu BMW cũ trong tầm giá 400 triệu đồng đáng để người tiêu dùng lưu tâm như dòng series 3 [320i, 325i, 350i,...] đời 2006 - 2010; dòng series 5 [525i, 530i,...] đời 2005 - 2009; dòng X3 đời 2005 - 2006;...
BMW series 3
Có thể nói, trong phân khúc 300 - 500 triệu đồng, các dòng BMW series 3 như 318i, 320i, 325i, 350i và dòng SUV X3 đời từ 2005 - 2008 đang có rất nhiều sự lựa chọn.

Đối với dòng BMW series 3 318i đời 2005 đang có giá bán rẻ nhất, dao động từ 280 - 300 triệu đồng. Mẫu xe này là một ví dụ điển hình cho câu chuyện "xe hạng sang giá rẻ" tại Việt Nam, khi chỉ có giá tương đương một chiếc KIA Morning.
BMW 318i dung tích 2.0 lít, sử dụng nhiên liệu xăng, hộp số tự động 5 cấp. Xe có nhiều công nghệ tiên tiến như: lazăng đúc hợp kim, hệ thống chống bó cứng phanh [ABS], kiểm soát lực phanh khi rẽ [CBC], kiểm soát lực kéo [Traction control-TC], hệ thống ổn định điện tử [Stability control], túi khí hạn chế tác động từ va chạm cho người lái và hành khách phía trước và bên hông xe, nội thất bọc da , phím âm thanh tích hợp trên vô lăng, điều hòa không khí tự động, tay lái trợ lực, gương kính chỉnh điện, ghế điện có chế độ nhớ vị trí.

Mẫu xe thứ 2 trong phân phân khúc này là BMW series 3 320i đời 2007 - 2010, giá bán trên thị trường xe cũ dao động từ 350 - 500 triệu đồng, tùy thuộc vào đời xe.
Người tiêu dùng đánh giá khá cao BMW 320i cũ bởi kiểu dáng đẹp và nhiều công nghệ tiên tiến được tích hợp. Đặc biệt, mức tiêu hao nhiên liệu của 320i chỉ khoảng 8l-9l/100km.
Tiếp đến là BMW 325i đời 2005 - 2008. Hiện tại, mẫu xe này đang có giá bán trên thị trường xe cũ dao động từ 320 - 430 triệu đồng, tùy thuộc vào đời xe. Các thông số kỹ thuật của BMW 325i khá tương đồng với dòng 318i, tuy nhiên, xe có một số tinh chỉnh nhẹ về động cơ và thiết kế.
Mẫu xe cuối cùng của dòng BMW series 3 là mẫu SUV hạng sang X3 đời 2006 - 2007 với giá bán từ 450 - 500 triệu đồng, tùy thuộc vào chất lượng xe.
BMW series 5
Cũng giống như "người đồng hương" Mercedes-Benz, các dòng xe BMW có tốc độ mất giá rất nhanh. Đơn cử, mẫu BMW series 5 525i đời 2007 đang có giá bán dao động từ 350 - 400 triệu đồng. Như vậy, sau 12 năm có mặt trên thị trường, mẫu xe này đã mất 2/3 giá trị. Tương tự, mẫu BMW series 5 530i đời 2006 - 2007 đang có giá bán dao động từ 450 - 600 triệu đồng.

BMW 530i được trang bị động cơ I6 3.0l thẳng hàng với công suất tối đa 255 mã lực và lực mô-men xoắn cực đại 310 Nm. Ngoài ra, mẫu 530i nổi bật với thiết kế sang trọng, nam tính kèm theo đó là hàng loạt trang bị an toàn tiên tiến vào thời điểm đó.
I know comparing a 4 to a 6 is kind of like apples to oranges. But I found a '98 318i and a '94 325i for about the same price.
Anyway, as far as reliability is concerned, instinct tells me to go with the '98, I just don't want to regret it down the road and wish I went with the 6. However, I feel like I would have to spend some loot on repairs on the 325i [ a '94 must need some work] at the same time with the 318i, I could spend the money on mods.

It's a big difference.. If you don't notice it, you aren't driving the car to it's full potential.
The fact that the 94 and th 98 are the same price should also be a hint that the 6-cyl is wort a bit more.. Still it is a tough call w/ the difference in years.

- - > Where do you get this "400-500lb weight difference"? 325's weigh in at 3087lb, last I checked the ti [lightests of the 18's] was a bit more than 2600lb. 2822lb in 94, slimmed to 2745 by the 96 year. Even at it's best weight it's still only 342lbs lighter than my is.
Basically, no it doesn't mean that it'd be as fast. You also have to remember the 6 has a hellovalot more torque than the ti's and a broader power band. -Qaz 02 330i

If you feel you can be happy with the 318, you can buy a much newer, lower mileage car [not usually the 4 yr spread you've mentioned, but still]. If not, you have to decide how much you can spend to get as new of a 325 / 328 as you can afford. The 318i handles great [the ti really great, but I didn't like the interior as well], but it didn't have the power I wanted for stop and go traffic.

DiscoTeknix - yes, the Ti is great in an autoX. Kos-motate gets one of the best times each time he's out racing.
95 318i: -53k miles -5 spd -no leather -no cd -$10k
95 325i: -150k miles -auto -leather -cd -$8k
the 6 cyl really isnt that far off from the 4 cyl price-wise if you check autotrader or any other magazines/online sources. my dad who is the "real" owner of the car naturally took the 4 cyl over the 6 simply because of the lower milage and the 5 spd transmission. as far as features go, i now have leather and cd player and my car is just about the same as any other 325 cept for some with the extra onboard computer. i am 16, i dont need the extra power to run myself into a wall yet =D

- > The 4-cylinder is a lot of fun because the max power is achieved at 6KRPM while the redline is only slightly higher, consequently you get a much free-er [sp?] revving engine. But the sound and the refinement of the M52/M54 is enough to make me want a 6-pot next time. As long as it's got the M44 engine [not the 8 valve M43] go with the 98 4-pot, it might not be as fast, but you won't be disappointed.
1998 Steel Blue BMW 318iS

questionning handling shouldnt be a big question...as far as sport packages and stuff....u can always go aftermarketer to make each handle better
we both had 5 speed's, his 318 is fun to drive, we used to switch cars and drive around, its like a euro rice basically, think your going fast...but u aint, the 318 sounds like a wheezy donkey...the 6 banger bimmers sound.....awesome
screw the stock bmw cd player and speakers, they blow IMO....well my friends m5 stock system aint bad, lolz
i'd use those extra 2K's and find a lower mileage MANUEL E36 6 cycl., my friends 318 maintanence bills were about even with mine...he spent just as much keeping his bimmer as i did...mine also had almost double his mileage too
i cant say his 318 isnt peppy though....its fun to drive no doubt...but when my parents 99 auto toyota camry 4 banger pulled on his 318....2 times racing......my friend sure was embarressed
