Autoplay iPhone video

Goings nuts over here — cannot figure out how to disable video autoplay in Safari.

Never did this on my iOS 14 XR.

Tried Settings > Accessibility > Motion but video autoplay was already disabled there.

Anyone have a solution or am I just missing something obvious?

Many apps and services allow videos to auto-play on the iPhone. This feature is sometimes convenient, but can also be very distracting. 

Thankfully, it's very easy to turn off auto-playing videos on an iPhone that's running iOS 11 or later.  Here's how to do it.

How to turn off auto-play on an iPhone running iOS 13 or later

If your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS 13, the setting to disable auto-playing videos is in your Accessibility settings. You can turn off the auto-play setting to prevent videos from auto-playing in any of the native Apple apps, including Safari.

1. Start the Settings app.

2. Tap "Accessibility."

3. Tap "Motion."

4. On the Motion page, turn off "Auto-Play Video Previews" by swiping the button to the left.

After turning this off, you should find that all native Apple apps stop auto-playing video. 

But it's possible to control the auto-playing videos settings for iTunes and the App Store separately. See the next section for more details. 

How to turn off auto-play in iTunes and the App Store on an iPhone running iOS 11 or later

Before iOS 13, you only had the option to disable auto-playing videos in iTunes and the App Store — this setting doesn't extend to Safari or other Apple apps.

This setting remains in iOS 13, and if you want to control iTunes and the App Store separately from other auto-play settings, you can do that here. 

1. Start the Settings app.

2. Tap "iTunes & App Store."

3. Tap "Video Autoplay."

  1. Open the Settings app and go to iTunes and App Stores.
  2. Tap Video Autoplay and select Off from the available options.
  3. You can go with Wi-fi only if you like the App Store offering previews of the apps while running on a Wi-Fi connection.

Note: When you turn off Auto-Play Video Previews from the Motion section in Accessibility, video autoplay settings in the iOS App store will be automatically disabled.

How to Stop Autoplay Videos in iOS Photos App

Photos app would be one of the most frequently-used apps on your iPhone. While scrolling through some old memories, we find the video autoplay causing disruption. So here’s how you can turn it off.

  1. Open the Settings app on the iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and go to Photos settings.
  3. Turn off the toggle of Autoplay Videos and Live Photos.

How to Stop Autoplay for Facebook Videos on iPhone and iPad

Facebook app on the iPhone has turned on autoplay of videos by-default. If you don’t like it, you can turn it off with these simple steps.

  1. Open the Facebook app on your iPhone.
  2. Go to Menu from the bottom-right corner of the screen in the app.
  3. Select Settings & Privacy and tap on Settings.
  4. Scroll down and go into Videos and photos settings under the banner of Media and contacts.
  5. Tap Autoplay and select Never Autoplay Videos from the options.

Autoplay videos in the Twitter app can cost a pretty good amount of cellular data, and here’s how you can disable it.

  1. Launch the Twitter app on the iPhone.

  1. At first, launch the YouTube app.
  2. Tap on the profile icon on the top-right corner of the app.
  3. Go to Settings and turn off the Autoplay next video toggle.

How to Stop Autoplay for Instagram Videos on iPhone

The Instagram app on the iPhone doesn’t offer an option to completely turn off the autoplay of videos. But it has a different way that will not affect your cellular data usage, and also, videos will take a long time to process.

  1. Open Instagram on your iPhone and go to your profile.
  2. Open Settings from the right side menu.
  3. Tap Account.
  4. Go into Cellular Data Settings and turn on Use Less Data toggle.

How to Turn Off Netflix Autoplay Video Previews

If you love binge-watching shows on Netflix, but the autoplay of previews annoys you, you can disable it with these simple steps.

  1. Open Netflix.com in the browser on your iPhone
  2. Log in to your details if you haven’t signed in.
  3. Tap on your profile – the upper-right corner of your screen.
  4. Go to Manage Profiles.
  5. Select your profile if you’ve multiple profiles.
  6. On the next screen, untick before the option of Autoplay previews while browsing on all devices.

You can also turn off the auto-play episodes in a series by unticking the Autoplay next episode in a series on all devices option.

How to Turn Off Amazon Prime Video AutoPlay

If you don’t like binge-watching TV shows, Amazon Prime offers an option to disable Auto-play from its iPhone app.

  1. Launch the Amazon Prime app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Go to My Stuff; an icon resided on the lower-right corner in the app.
  3. Tap on the Settings icon on the upper-right corner.
  4. Select Auto Play and turn off the toggle of Allow Auto Play on this device.
  5. At last, Tap Save to make the changes.

The Autoplay of videos is nice-having to some people. But for many, it’s irritating and ruining cellular data on shallow things. But if your reason is to save more cellular data, you can opt for ‘Wi-Fi only’ in some apps that offer the option.
