Reviews for the Dell Precision M6800

79% Review Dell Precision M6800 Notebook | Notebookcheck Upgradeable Work Machine. This large 17-inch Dell workstation is well-equipped and offers plenty of space for further customization. But is it enough to compete with the smaller Dell Precision M4800? Find out in our in-depth review.

60% This monster laptop impresses with its power and versatility Source: Techradar

Archive.org version The M6800 is impressive, but it's a niche product. Few employees will truly need the versatility and power offered by this machine, especially when it's this bulky and expensive. If you can justify investing in such a powerful notebook, it excels in every important area, which makes it an excellent high-end workstation. 80% Dell Precision M6800 review Source: Trusted Reviews

Archive.org version This machine is designed for the most demanding of road warriors, and that’s influenced virtually every department. It’s got more ports, sockets and slots than you’ll find on almost any other machine, and it’s got more power under the hood than most, too – the M6800 will be able to handle work software without breaking a sweat. 80% Dell Precision M6800 Mobile Workstation review: a good desktop replacement laptop for professionals that's lacking a little style Source: Tech Advisor

Archive.org version The Dell Precision M3800 Professional Workstation can serve well as a desktop replacement for professionals who'd like the flexibility of being able to lug their workstation around. It has old-fashioned but perhaps classic laptop styling. Materials and build quality are competent if uninspired. For its given audience, and the price, we'd expect a real IPS display with better performance. The main and graphics processor are well judged for this workhorse, and the complete package forms a safe but highly serviceable choice. Series:

The Dell Precision M6800 is a customizable workstation notebook. It allows the user to configure the specifications to their liking. The Dell Precision M6800 comes with an Intel Core i7-4800MQ processor which is one of the fastest processors you can get today. This coupled with 16 GB of RAM will ensure smooth performance even while running high requirement games and watching HD movies in an alternate tab.

The build of the Dell Precision M6800 is also sturdy. However, because of this, the weight of the laptop is rather high at 3.8 kg. Furthermore, because it was built in expectation for possible upgrades, the size is also bigger at 41 by 27 cm. The device comes with a generous amount of ports. It has 4 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, an HDMI port, a VGA port, a Display Port, an internal card reader and an Ethernet port for wired connectivity. For wireless connectivity, the Dell Precision M6800 uses a Dell Wireless 1550 802.11ac module which is pretty average. Bluetooth 4.0 is also supported.

All in all, the Dell Precision M6800 is able to meet the needs of various groups of people. However, size and weight might deter people from buying it as there are no lack of choices for other notebooks and tablets which excel greatly in mobility.

NVIDIA Quadro K3100M:

High-end workstation graphics card based on the GK104 Kepler architecture with 768 shaders and a 256-Bit wide memory bus.

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz [920XM]. Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs [using single threaded applications] but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

4800MQ: Haswell-based quad-core processor clocked at 2.7 GHz with Turbo Boost support up to 3.7 GHz. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 4600 GPU and a dual channel DDR3 memory controller.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.

17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements [DTR]. The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions [more details, better legibility].» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

3.83 kg:

Only a few laptops are in this weight class because the mobility is rather limited due to the high weight.

Dell: Dell is a U.S. manufacturer [based in Texas] of computer hardware founded in 1984 and is one of the largest international manufacturers in terms of both market share and notebook models. Dell offers laptops that are suitable for various applications, such as business laptops, gaming laptops, ultra portables and workstations. Dell's business laptops from the Latitude and Precision series are an option for professional users and businesses.

In 2023, Dell had an approximate 17% market share of global PC sales, ranking

3 after Lenovo and HP.

For gaming enthusiasts, Dell's Alienware brand is for gaming notebooks.

74.75%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ["sufficient" or "satisfactory"], they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.

Are Dell Precision laptops worth it?

The M6800 houses a 4th generation Haswell Intel Core i7-4800MQ processor. Its quad cores have a stock speed of 2.7 GHz. The processor can also be overclocked up to 3.7 GHz, thanks to Intel Turbo Boost 2.0 technology.

What is the difference between XPS and Precision 5570?
