Thailand is certainly coming into their own when it comes to beauty brands – there’s Gino McCray, Siam Botanicals, Erb, Bisous Bisous, and now, Mille Beaute that boasts a rather girly and cutesy brand image.

The Packaging: A glossy-finish compact with the usual airlock tray that holds the sponge, inbuilt mirror.
The Scent: Surprisingly, none. [based on its sweet pink and overall girly brand image, I was expecting a sweet floral scent. but hey, no loss here].
The Texture/Finish: Though the name says matte finish, it’s not a full-on matte finish. There’s a slight dewiness to the finish [say about 20% radiance, 80% matte]. Over time, the matteness becomes more pronounced [10%: 90% matte]. It covers most blemishes and dark eye circles.
The Verdict: Generally, a pretty decent cushion that does its job well. It covers, conceals, and provides some slight radiance. That said, because of its matte finish/oil control qualities, it does tend to get a little patchy sometime after 4 hours or so in a dry airconditioned interior. The bright side is that it does not oxidise and mesh together with the skin’s sebum though. Considering that it is made in Korea, I think it’s safe to say it comes from the OEMs of certain big Korean brands, which means it’s pretty “safe” in that sense that there’s R&D backing. The downside that it only comes in 2 shades [21, 23], and it may not be that suitable for drier-skintypes that require more hydration and moisture. Note that it also doesn’t have the same resurfacing and skin-smoothing effect that Laneige’s Anti-Ageing BB cushion has. Hero ingredient Rice Bran Extract is an antioxidant rich skin nutrient that wards off free radicals. It also possesses some anti-inflammatory properties to calm the skin while moisturising with polysaccharides and omega-3 fatty acids. Oryza Sativa [Rice] Bran Oil additionally contains fatty acids, making it nicely moisturising while Vitamins E and B help to firm and tighten the skin. This action is reinforced by the inclusion of Tocopherol [Vitamin E], a powerful antioxidant that helps to ward off free radicals to prevent skin damage.
Shea Butter is a plant-based emollient that mimics the lipid content of skin to promote a soft, smooth, healthy appearance. Glycerin, a powerful humectant, together with Synthetic Beeswax, assure replenishing and restorative effects to help achieve normal skin balance and hydration.
Vitamin B5, Panthenol, effectively penetrates the skin, able to reach into the lower layers for considerable cell absorption and hence effective moisturisation. Meanwhile, Bisabolol also boasts a high panthenol concentration so can effectively stimulate and promote the skin’s healing process. It additionally enhances hydration, assisting to reduce flaking and skin damage caused by a lack of moisture. Due to its low molecular size, Sodium Hyaluronate can reach deep into the dermis to combine with, maintain and attract water making it a superb natural moisturiser.
There are also anti-aging components in this cream. Adenosine has proven wrinkle fighting capability, helping prevent fine lines or existing lines from deepening. As we age, naturally occurring ceramides in our cells become less effective at achieving hydrated, supple skin and keeping wrinkles at bay. The inclusion of Ceramide NP together with fatty acids and alcohols help to strengthen the skin barrier.
Often coexisting in cosmetic formulations, Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate present a unique natural emulsifier derived from olive oil which reduces water loss and moisturises the skin. Finally, there’s also synthetic Dimethicone which is a silicone included to improve slip, texture and seal in moisture.

After cleansing, dispense an appropriate amount and gently massage into the skin at the last stage of the morning and night skin care routine.

the performance
Typically presented, the I’m From Rice Cream has the same packaging as the other brand’s creams with consistent beige colouring across the rice range making it immediately identifiable. The glass packaging is elegant and together with the label are eco-friendly. The organic rice range formulae are also cruelty free and free of additives like stripping alcohols, fragrance and essential oils. It’s earned an all green safety rating from EWG and CosDNA making it safe for ever sensitive folk.
The cream has a beautiful glossy white appearance and is quite dense although simultaneously soft and delicate to touch. It has excellent slip so glides across the face well without drag. A small amount is all that’s needed, although if you overapply slightly, it’s quite forgiving, not become heavy or greasy and still maintaining good absorption. It penetrates the skin deeply leaving nothing behind. A lack of stickiness, greasiness and tackiness ensures pleasant application and wear. I’ve been finishing both my morning and night routines with this moisturiser and the experience has been nothing but pleasant and comforting. It works well with makeup and doesn’t interefere with sunscreen application during the day. At night, I see no need to layer a sleeping pack over the top as it does a great job of keeping my skin moisturised between applications. It also coexists nicely with facial oils. Only the driest of skins and conditions would possibly require anything layered over the top.
Regarding claims, well it’s definitely nourishing and moisturising and my skin feels better for using it. A strengthened barrier has helped to keep acne under control too. Pimples are something I rarely suffer but with the requirement to wear a face mask at work all day and in public due to the pandemic, that’s no longer the case. Barrier repair together with calming serums have really helped to improve skin clarity and reduce acne causing bacteria from wreaking havoc. So, through barrier reinforcement, this cream does improve oil control as claimed.
I haven’t noticed any change in tone yet, noting I’ve been using this for around a month so far. I tend to look to prior layers to provide these sort of benefits anyway [toner, essence and serum]. From a cream, I mainly seek out the key benefits of moisture [both directly and through the prevention of TEWL] and barrier strength. This product clearly delivers on both counts.
the conclusion
Since it isn’t greasy or heavy and lacks ingredients that can cause sensitivity, the I’m From Rice Cream would suit all skin types, from oily to dry including sensitive. This product is elegant from presentation to performance. It’s nourishing, moisturising and strengthening, making it a sheer joy to use. It definitely gets my tick of approval and recommendation.
