VeraCrypt hdiutil attach failed - no mountable file systems

Truecrypt is one of the most powerful encryption software, it has been discontinued due to some politics and security reasons as far as I know..!

Anyway, if you are using Truecrypt software running on Mac system then you properly got this error message due to some errors in your external hard drive or maybe your drive is formatted as exFAT of FAT32 while the encryption has been done on mac partition or other reasons.

In this post, I will address the solution to the problem and I will provide you with all tools needed by the end of the post.

Simply follow the instructions in the following steps,

1- Select your drive then select a slot and then press “Mount” button.

2- Then press “Options” button and select “Do not mount” option at the bottom, then enter your password and click Ok.

3- Your drive is now unlocked but not yet mounted as shown below, this is the most important step because your drive is now reachable and could be fixed. Yay 🙂

4- Now you may try to repair your drive using Mac “first Aid” as following:

At this point you will realize how rubbish and useless mac utilities are.. 😷 they only good to fix already fixed drives😅

5- So I recommend using one of most powerful software[Not free] I have ever used to repair hard drives, it is called “DiskWarrior” (I used version 5), I tried almost every hard drive repairing softwares and nothing could compete this one:

The process will take some time depends on your hard drive volume size and how much it is damaged, but at the end it will be repaired so be patient and grab a cup of coffee :).

Once the process is complete, a new window will be prompted, it shows a report with all details, click on “Replace”

Once last step is completed, the software will ask you if you want to save the report which contains all details of your hard drive along with the damaged and rescued files information.
