Old school m-audio

The interface is cool. Wish I had the manual on it(paperback). Otherwise, it's all good though

This unit really improved the quality of my recordings out of my home studio. And by the way, it pairs nicely with the M-Audio Nova condenser mic which you can get for around $100. I'm running this on an AMD dual-core with 4GBs of memory and a couple of 7200RPM drives with Windows 7. I think I had to get the Windows 7 drivers from the M-Audio forum, but everything is working just fine. I'm using Acoustica Mixcraft for my recording software, and it does take advantage of the 24-bit capabilities of the FastTrack Pro. It's a sweet setup for not that much money.

When I first bought the fast track pro, I was a little scared that I might have put my money into something not worth the buy. But when it arrived in the mail and I started to fiddle with it, I fell in love. The sound it produces is unreal! For the low price of it, it makes a great sound for recording. Some people say "You get what you pay for", but for the fast track pro, you get a lot more then that! If your a musician that wants to record semi-professionally, this product is for you.

I will not give a full review because others have already done a good job with that. I did want to add that I have been using my fasttrack pro with garageband and must say that is is a great fit! The flexibility of inputs combined with a nice price tag is what makes this piece of hardware stand out. I had been recording demos using the built in mic on my macbook, which as you can expect is really only useful for capturing an idea. For better quality, I am using the fasttrack pro and recording using a neuman condenser vocal mic (nice to have phantom power!). Also recording midi using an external keyboard works without any trouble. And finally recording guitar using the 1/4" inputs works great too. All of these inputs worked without any hassle on the fasttrack pro, just go into preferences to tell garageband to use the fasttrack pro; the only other part to remember when recording a single channel is to set the track to record L or R (by default it records in stereo which result in your guitar being panned either left or right). I have not yet tried to use the SPDIF digital inputs. I have read about people having issue with the drivers, but I did not need to install any software or drivers, I just plugged it in and started using it, my mac recognized it right off. If you are looking for a quick and easy way to upgrade your garageband recordings, then put the fasttrack pro on your radar.

Hello,

I have been looking for an external audio interface for a couple of months. I have been looking at every place with reviews, opinions, etc and I ended up with two options. One, this one and the second the Tascam 144 MKII.

At the end I decided for the M-AUDIO which arrived this weekend.

The package comes very well presented, the installation process was smooth and easy even to get the latest versions of the drivers and also, what it came as a bonus which is the DAW software LIVE LITE 6.1 that can be updated for free to 8.2

I'm extremely happy as the quality of the recordings is great. Good product to buy.

After a couple of weeks of having this great product I'm very happy for the decision I made. The sound is fantastic, even I have connected a second guitar directly to the M-Audio and the sound is clean, clear, with body. Just great product.

Also, the LIVE LITE software is fantastic. You can set the tempo of a track by just going to the TAP icon which is a very important feature if you want to hear a track and follow with your guitar at a lower speed.

I play several instruments and I'm also a laptop DJ. I'm not stupid. I first jumped into the world of DAW's (and interfaces) last year, and in that time I have learned a LOT, and have played around with a lot of gear. I mostly use ableton but have used Pro-Tools, Fruity Loops, Cubase and Acid. This is the first big piece of equipment I bought, and I have to say that this thing is a piece of junk and I am OUTRAGED that I spent this much money on it because it simply does not work. When I first got into this lifestyle I assumed I just didn't know what I was doing and there was a logical explanation - now as an intermediate laptop musician I know what that is. This piece of equipment SUCKS. My friend has a cheapo interface that is super easy to use and I'm embarassed that I wasted my money on this stupid thing. M-Audio is a notoriously terrible company, please do your research and trust the ratings here because I really sincerely do not want you to make the same mistakes. Sure it probably works well for some people, but really its just a gamble. I think they make unpredictable gear. I had a PC from 2007, windows 32, vista. On my system there were major latency problems and sometimes the signal would just cut out. By that I mean that my computer would all of a sudden not recognize the M-Audio interface so I would lose the input signal - as a musician you can only imagine how frustrating this is. Living in the constant fear that the awesome solo you are recording is going to cut out at any minute. More often the output would disappear. I assumed it was my stupid PC but recently I got a macbook pro 2012, and I have the same problem with it. I have given up on this piece of junk. I hate this company. They have terrible customer service and they make you PAY to get their help.

Honestly, I was a little scared reading about the driver issues for this product but I took a chance and bought it and I don't regret it. I've been using this on my 64 bit Windows 7 desktop and my 32 bit Windows 7 UL30A ASUS laptop with Adobe Audition. In both instances, the drivers worked like a charm and only required me to configure the device in the Audition's Hardware settings before I was ready to record. I use this to record from my Korg X50 Synth and a condenser mic (built-in phantom power is convenient) and it sure beats using the old line-in port on my motherboard. If the specs match what you are looking for, I highly recommend it!
