Đôi khi, bạn không biết nên xưng hô với người mà bạn mới gặp lần đầu như thế nào. Một quy tắc chung là hãy xưng hô theo cách trang trọng và chờ tới khi người đó bảo bạn dùng tên thân mật của họ.
Nguồn gốc:
Có nhiều ý kiến khác nhau. Có người thì nói: đó là xuất phát từ luật ngày xưa của nước Anh, cho phép đàn ông có thể đánh vợ [thậm chí còn còn cả “thuật ngữ” đánh vợ – wife beating!] nếu dùng roi to chỉ bằng ngón tay cái, không được to hơn! Có người thì nói, thành ngữ này xuất phát từ phương pháp thử bia ngày xưa, theo đó, người ta nhúng ngón tay cái vào bia để nếm thử… Nói chung là bản thân người bản xứ cũng không biết nguồn gốc của nó là từ đâu ra.
Nhưng không quan trọng. Vấn đề là nó được nhiều người dùng. Và mình cần biết. Vậy thôi.
Cách dùng:
Không có gì đặc biệt. Có thể dùng ở cả bối cảnh trang trọng và dân dã.
Rule cần có the hoặc a đi kèm, tùy ngữ cảnh; còn thumb thì không có mạo từ đi kèm.
LUYỆN PHÁT ÂM:
Trong phần này, các bạn sẽ luyện phát âm theo các câu mẫu.
Phương pháp luyện tập:
- nghe câu mẫu do người bản xứ phát âm, tập nói theo,
- ghi lại phát âm của mình,
- nghe lại phần thực hành và so sánh với phát âm mẫu
- lặp lại quá trình này cho tới khi phát âm thuần thục.
LƯU Ý:
- Thời gian ghi âm: Không hạn chế
- Thiết bị đi kèm: Nên dùng headphone có kèm microphone để có chất lượng âm thanh tốt nhất
- Trình duyệt web: Dùng được trên mọi trình duyệt. Lưu ý cho phép trình duyệt sử dụng microphone để ghi âm.
- Địa điểm thực hành: Nên yên tĩnh để tránh tạp âm
