This paper assesses the comprehensive macroeconomic picture of the world and Vietnam in 2017 and forecasts the outlook for 2018, and then making some policy implications for Vietnam. The world economy in 2017 is considered to be the most prosperous since 2011, thanks to the steady growth of key economies, bounced global trade, and favorable global financial conditions. However, as slow and uncertain global investment growth as well as many unpredictable factors in US government policy and Brexit, and political risks from tensions of the Korean Peninsula, 2018 will continue to witness unpredictable developments in the global economy. The Vietnam Petroleum Institute (VPI) is implementing a multi-task national level project entitled “Research, evaluate, select and develop a pilot programme for industrial application of solutions to improve oil recovery coefficient for clastic oil bearing reservoirs of oil fields in the Cuu Long basin, on the continental shelf of Vietnam”. The article presen... This paper describes our participation in the TREC-9 Spoken Document Retrieval (SDR) track. The THISL SDR system consists of a realtime version of a hybrid connectionist/HMM large vocabulary speech recognition system and a probabilistic text retrieval system. This paper describes the configuration of the speech recognition and text retrieval systems, including segmentation and query expansion. We report our results for development tests using the TREC-8 queries, and for the TREC-9 evaluation.
