How many episodes in prodigal son season 2

It’s been three months since the procedural drama television series Prodigal Son was canceled by Fox, and fans are still doing everything they can to make a season 3 happen. The #SaveProdigalSon campaign has over 55k signatures, and series creators Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver are backing it 100%.

So will all of our hard work and efforts mean that we get to see Prodigal Son season 3? And maybe at Netflix? Let’s talk about it.

Back in May, Fox decided to give Prodigal Son the ax because of low ratings, but of course, this decision didn’t sit well with viewers. In addition, the season 2 finale hadn’t even aired yet when the decision was made, so it seemed like a hasty decision for many people.

It’s not surprising that so many people want to see Prodigal Son season 3 because the season 2 finale ended on a serious cliffhanger, and those loose ends didn’t get to be tied. So, if there isn’t a season 3 on the horizon, fans of the drama series will have to come up with their own ideas of how the story would end.

However, we’re hoping for a turnaround and that Prodigal Son gets picked up by a TV network or streaming service like Netflix. We want to see a continuation of the story so that nothing is left to the imagination. So, where are we at with getting Prodigal Son season 3 up and running? We’re going to tell you everything we know about a potential new season.

There are currently two seasons of Prodigal Son, and fingers crossed, we get a third season. Season 1 consists of 20 episodes and season 2 has 13 episodes.

Will there be a Prodigal Son season 3?

Currently, the odds are not looking to be in our favor. As I mentioned earlier, it’s been three months since the TV show’s cancellation, and the campaign hasn’t reached its goal of 75k signatures either. Also, according to Deadline, WBTV has been shopping the series around, but one of their top options decided not to add Prodigal Son to its lineup. Apparently, HBO Max didn’t have the space.

Adding Prodigal Son on HBO Max’s platform would’ve made sense because they already have streaming rights to the show’s two seasons, but the streaming giant passed. This leaves the drama series with fewer options, however, fans are still hoping Netflix could be the one to save it.

When is Prodigal Son season 3 filming?

Since the TV show was canceled and hasn’t been renewed, filming for season 3 isn’t happening at least anytime soon. However, if Netflix or TV network decides to take a chance on Prodigal Son, we should hear about filming for season 3 not so long after.

Unfortunately, since the drama television series hasn’t been picked up for a season 3, there isn’t a season 3 release date. But if Prodigal Son does get saved soon and if filming were to begin in the coming months, and we could be looking at a spring or summer 2022 season 3 release date.

These are just predictions, but there is still a chance for Prodigal Son to be picked up. We’ve seen a canceled Fox show in the past [Lucifer] get picked up by Netflix and have a multi-season run on their platform. Also, we’re currently seeing Manifest go through the process of possibly getting picked up by Netflix.

So don’t give up hope! Instead, do all that you can to make a Prodigal Son season 3 happen. Stay tuned for [hopefully] more information about a new season.

Prodigal Son season 2 spoilers ahead.

With its second and final season now finished airing, Prodigal Son co-creators Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver have reflected on the bloodstained end of Tom Payne's Malcolm Bright and Michael Sheen's Martin Whitley.

Hitting US screens yesterday [May 18], tense scenes played out as Bright seemingly stabbed his murderous father to death following their successful rescue of Jeannie Larkin from The Woodsman.

Chatting to TVLine about this cliffhanger, Fedak and Sklaver admitted it was never envisioned as Prodigal Son's final flourish, but it works well even if the show isn't picked up by another network.

"We were approaching it as, 'What's the most exciting way to end season 2?' We also feel, like you do, that it is not a series finale that doesn't work because we've been cancelled. It still does work... This isn't like ALF being captured by the government before they were cancelled. It's still a good and exciting story," explained the former.

Sklaver added: "The finale really feels like we've earned everything that happens in that moment, but it's pretty crazy to know, in 13 episodes, we were able to tell this story. We found it very satisfying.

"We have a whole season 3 story locked and loaded, and we don't want to stop telling this story. But we're feeling good about how this ended on Fox."

Further along, talk soon turned onto their planned third season, with Sklaver revealing: "We don't want to give too much of it away because we're still hopeful of being able to tell that story. But Bright stabbing Martin at the end wasn't going to make anyone's life easier, and I think our show flourishes when all of our characters face adversity.

"Bright and Dani just kissed, but they're not going to be able to get past this. Gil and Jessica are in a good place. There's so many places that we could jump off from the ending of this season, and that's what's so exciting for us."

So, after being cancelled earlier this month, how realistic is Prodigal Son's resurrection?

"It's not really Sam and I having those discussions," commented Fedak. "Those conversations are being had. I can't speak to them, because it's more of a studio thing.

"The one thing we'll say is Warner Bros has been an incredible advocate for the show. They've been great to us, and they've been very supportive, and they love the show. And Fox loves the show, too.

"The executives that bought the show and championed the show were all advocates and all gutted by the situation we've found ourselves in. So we're hopeful, but it's a studio thing now."

Prodigal Son airs on Fox in the US and on Sky One in the UK.
