How to make chamomile oil from tea

After I read about chemicals in modern skincare cosmetics and all the work that the liver needs to do to remove these toxins, I decided to do my products. Of course, easy and cheap. Chamomile infused oil was my first choice because I already know what properties this herb contains to improve skin health.

I already wrote about chamomile essential oil benefits in my previous blog posts. If you are interested, you can read it. Infused chamomile oil is not as concentrated as essential, and you can use it by itself.

First, I want to clarify what is infused oil? A herbal infused oil is an organic herb or herbs steeped in an organic carrier oil like virgin olive oil for a certain time. For that time, the oil receives the properties from the herbs.

Chamomile infused oil is commonly used to make homemade lotions, balms, salves, lip balms, and soaps. Also, you can use it by itself, as mentioned before, by directly applying to your skin. I will publish some of these recipes further in my blog.

The chamomile is repairing damaged skin, so this infused oil is useful for wounds, scars, dry skin, daily skincare, and eczema.

You can make herbal infused oil in three ways.

  1. Cold infusion – the herbs and oil are staying in a shady place for about 50 days with occasional shaking.
  2. Sun infusion – herbs steened in oil put in direct sunlight about 35-40 days, like a window, for example. (you need to wrap the jar in dark paper to save the healing properties from UV rays.
  3. Heat infusion – is preparing in one day. The herbs are steeped in oil and all that is put in a double boiler in low heat for about 5 hours.

I have chosen to describe the first method because it is a more natural way, and the elder folks in my vicinity use it too. Maybe it takes more time, but I don’t rush. The other two ways are good too; it’s just a personal choice. And if you are in need to prepare it quickly, use the heat infusion.

The herbs that you will use for infusion can be fresh or dried. Infused oil with dried herbs will last longer because the moisture in fresh herbs can spoil it. If you decide to go with fresh herbs, leave them one night after it is harvested to evaporate the moisture.

BTW, if you are interested you can also read about thyme, lemon balm, yarrow, and sweet marjoram infused oil recipes.

Ok, let’s start.
