When does BMW release 2023 models
2023 BMW Car Lineup: New Tech and Colors, but Features Fall Victim to the Chip ShortageAlso—Is the 7 Series the most controversial BMW design ever? Show
SUVs are all the rage, but BMW hasn't given up on its cars—the brand still has a diverse lineup of coupes, convertibles, and sedans. For 2023, a new 7 Series flagship headlines the changes, along with an all-electric equivalent. The M performance division celebrates its 50th anniversary, marking the milestone with special cues on its models. Although some 2023 BMWs get tech upgrades, others lose options like adaptive cruise control or
gesture control, presumably victims of the supply chain constraints affecting the entire auto industry. Even so, no 2023 BMW is short on features. Here's what's new on every 2023 BMW car. Fully redesigned last year, BMW's small two-door coupe gets minor updates for 2023. 2 Series units produced in
or after July 2022 get a curved infotainment display. On the 230i, aluminum exterior trim is no longer available, thereby mandating black trim. Inside the 230i, gloss black trim is discontinued, leaving different styles of aluminum trim to choose from. Although a rear-wheel-drive M240i is on our wish list, we're very excited for the imminent return of the M2. 2023 BMW 2 Series: Pros and ConsPros

2023 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: What’s NewThe 2 Series Gran Coupe carries over entirely unchanged from last year. BMW's smallest sedan continues to be powered by a turbo 2.0-liter I-4, making 228 hp in 228i trim or 301 hp in M235i spec. Either way, it's connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard AWD. With a starting price of well under $40,000, the 2 Series Gran Coupe continues to be the least expensive way into a new BMW. 2023 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe: Pros and ConsPros

2023 BMW 3 Series: What’s NewBMW's classic compact sedan gets a midcycle update for 2023. The 3 Series' styling is slightly reworked and, in contrast to other new BMW designs, somewhat toned-down from before. Inside, a larger 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen is housed with the digital gauge display under a single curved pane. On the center console, the shift knob is replaced by a stubby switch. The 330i's optional Dynamic Handling package loses the M Sport differential, not letting it live up to its name quite as well. The Shadowline package adds LED cornering lights, but the adaptive laser LED headlights are no longer available. The sporty M3 gets the same enlarged infotainment arrangement as the standard 3 Series. A new style of aluminum interior trim becomes standard. From the Executive package, gesture controls and leather dashboard trim are removed. A built-in dashcam is split off from the Parking Assistance package into its own standalone option. Oxide Grey metallic paint is dropped in favor of Frozen Pure Grey matte paint. Additionally, 500 examples of the BMW M3 Edition 50 Jahre BMW M will come to the United States in some fun colors. 2023 BMW 3 Series: Pros and ConsPros

2023 BMW 4 Series: What’s NewThe 4 Series sees no changes to its standard features for 2023, but we wouldn't be surprised if it receives an infotainment upgrade, à la the 3 Series, for 2024. Alterations occur in its optional equipment. All models are offered with a leatherette dashboard finish. The Driving Assistance Professional package, which adds adaptive cruise control and lane-keep assist, is not currently available, presumably due to supply chain constraints. However, the Parking Assistance Package returns. In the Premium package, gesture control is removed, and a head-up display comes only on the M440i. With the Shadowline package, brake calipers painted in red or blue can be chosen. Finally, Bluestone Metallic paint has been replaced by Skyscraper Grey Metallic. Unlike the M3, the M4 does not get a new infotainment setup for 2023. Gesture control is removed from the Executive package, and a dashcam becomes a standalone option separate from the Parking Assistance package. The big news for the M4 this year is the arrival of the M4 CSL. Limited to just 1,000 units worldwide, the lighter and more powerful M4 CSL could be one of the gnarliest M cars in quite some time. 2023 BMW 4 Series: Pros and ConsPros

2023 BMW 5 Series: What’s NewOn the M550i, a power rear-window sunshade and manual rear side-window sunshades become standard. It's also now the only model that can be ordered with the Parking Assistance package. After a hiatus, the Executive package is again offered on 530i, 530e, and 540i models. However, it no longer includes gesture control. Likewise, gesture control has been removed from the Premium package, although remote engine start has been added. The Shadowline package allows a choice between red or blue painted brake calipers. Bluestone has been replaced by Arctic Race Blue, Bernina Grey Amber Effect is swapped for Skyscraper Grey, and purpleish Ametrin is a new addition to the 5 Series' paint color choices. The 2023 M5 will force you to listen more closely to its engine, because the high-end Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system is no longer available. Numerous colors are discontinued: Brands Hatch Grey, Snapper Rocks Blue, Motegi Red, Donington Grey, Bluestone, and Individual Frozen Bluestone metallic paints are all gone. San Remo Green and Skyscraper Gray are newly available. 2023 BMW 5 Series: Pros and ConsPros

2023 BMW 7 Series: What’s NewThe legendary 7 Series has been fully redesigned for 2023, entering its seventh generation with gobs of tech, a stunning interior, and unusual exterior styling. The 7 Series is offered with turbocharged and mild-hybridized I-6 and V-8 engines, supplemented by available AWD and rear-wheel steering. An all-electric 7 Series is also new—technically its own model called the i7. See all the details in our 2023 BMW 7 Series First Look. 2023 BMW 7 Series: Pros and ConsPros

2023 BMW 8 Series: What’s NewWhether you like it or not, every 2023 8 Series will come equipped with an LED-illuminated grille. Ventilated front seats become standard on the M850i. The M850i is also offered with heritage badging that celebrates the M division's 50th anniversary. Black finishing for the exterior lights, brake calipers, and brightwork is added with the new M Sport Professional package. Bluestone, Barcelona Blue, and Frozen Bluestone paints are dropped, while Portimao Blue, San Remo Green, Skyscraper Grey, Frozen Pure Grey, and Frozen Tanzanite Blue paints are added. The 2023 M8 is only offered in Competition trim, with 617 hp. It gets a slightly reworked grille, smoked taillights, and a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. On the four-door M8 Competition Gran Coupe, power sunshades for the rear windshield and side windows become standard. Brands Hatch Grey, Donington Grey, Bluestone, Barcelona Blue, Motegi Red, Ametrin, and Frozen Bluestone paints are swapped for new Isle of Man Green, Brooklyn Grey, Skyscraper Grey, Frozen Pure Grey, and Frozen Tanzanite Blue paints. 2023 BMW 8 Series: Pros and ConsPros

2023 BMW i4: What’s NewThat's not a 4 Series Gran Coupe—it's the new all-electric i4. It looks just like the four-door 4 Series, but the i4 has an all-electric powertrain that, in sporty M50 spec, gives it M4-rivaling speed. Introduced last year, the 2023 i4 M50 can be optioned with the M heritage badging. The electric motor sound enhancement feature is no longer bundled with the Premium package. 2023 BMW i4: Pros and ConsPros
Cons
2023 BMW i7: What’s NewThink of the i7 as an all-electric 7 Series. It was announced for 2023 in parallel with the new seventh-generation 7 Series, sharing its objectionable exterior design and flabbergasting interior. The primary difference, of course, is that the i7 is powered by batteries and motors, not gasoline and engines. Only the dual-motor i7 xDrive60 has been announced as of this writing, packing 563 hp and an estimated 300 miles of range. 2023 BMW i7: Pros and ConsPros
