Determine whether the variable is qualitative or quantitative. social security number

1/1Question 4The social security number is considered what type of variable?a. a quantitative variableb. either a quantitative or a qualitative variablec. an exchange variableSelected:d. a categorical or qualitative variableThis answer is correct.Correct. We cannot do any arithmetic on a social security number and it is for identification purposes only;therefore, it is considered a categorical or qualitative variable.

This is an observational study because the researchers observe the behavior of the individuals in the study without trying to influence an explanatory variable of the study.

Cross-sectional study

The response variable is the body mass index of the adolescents.

The explanatory variable is whether the adolescent has a TV in the bedroom or not.

Yes. For example, possible lurking variables might be eating habits and the amount of exercise per week.

The researchers made an effort to avoid confounding by accounting for potential lurking variables.

No, a television in the bedroom and obesity are associated because the body mass index of the adolescents who had a TV in their bedroom was significantly higher than that of the adolescents who did not have a TV in their bedroom.

in this problem we have been given a variable and we need to determine whether it is qualitative or quantitative. Now, quantitative data refers to any information which can be quantified, counted or measured and given a numerical value. Whereas qualitative data is descriptive in nature. Now the variable that we have been given is a Social Security number. Now note that in the Social Security number we do have numbers. It is made up of numbers. But we do not use these numbers for any numerical calculations. And the value of the Social Security number does not result from measuring or counting. Because of that this is not quantitative data. The data is actually qualitative. The data is qualitative and this is because even though the Social Security number has numbers, this is not used for counting. We don't get it do to measuring for example, we cannot add to Social Security numbers. This doesn't make any sense. So this is actually qualitative data. And so the correct option in this case will be option A. That is the variable is qualitative because it is an attribute characteristic.

Is SSN quantitative?

Because it is a nine-digit number given to the citizens of the US for identification and verification purpose, thus, it is always measured in quantitative data. Although it has all the details of the citizen on the SSN card, it is not considered qualitative.

Why are Social Security numbers qualitative?

And the value of the Social Security number does not result from measuring or counting. Because of that this is not quantitative data. The data is actually qualitative. The data is qualitative and this is because even though the Social Security number has numbers, this is not used for counting.

How do you know if a variable is qualitative or quantitative?

Quantitative data are data about numeric variables (e.g. how many; how much; or how often). Qualitative data are measures of 'types' and may be represented by a name, symbol, or a number code. Qualitative data are data about categorical variables (e.g. what type).

Is phone number a qualitative or quantitative variable?

Numbers like national identification number, phone number, etc. are however regarded as qualitative data because they are categorical and unique to one individual.
