Scatter Plot

SCATTER PLOTS are graphs which display the relationship the relationship between two sets of data.

On a scatter plot, two sets of data are graphed as ordered pairs on a coordinate plane.

Scatter plots are often used to display patterns, trends, or relationships between the variables.

Types of Relationships on Scatter Plots

Three types of relationships can be found on scatter plots:

➜ POSITIVE RELATIONSHIP: In a positive relationship, 'x' increases and 'y' increases.

➜ NEGATIVE RELATIONSHIP: In a negative relationship, 'x' increases and 'y' decreases.

➜ NO RELATIONSHIP: In a no relationship, no obvious pattern exists between 'x' and 'y'.
